JOHANNESBURG – Lindsay van der Byl is a 31 year old Social Entrepreneur, Motivational Speaker, Youth Life
Coach, Advanced graduate from the former Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship, Young African Leadership
Initiative (YALI) Alumni (Entrepreneurship & Business Development) and is also the current Lead SA – Hero of the
Month for July 2017.

During the chilly winter of 2016, Linzito as he is affectionately known started a Solo, unaided +-1550km epic cycle
on 5 July 2016. Now before that journey, he had only ever cycled about 5-10km but was determined to complete
this massive cycle going through 4 provinces armed only with his mountain bike and two backpacks.

The self-titled #Cycle4Change is a Reading Awareness Initiative that doubles up as #DonateABook Campaign.
Lindsay engages and interacts with ordinary citizens and communities he finds along the cities and towns which
he cycles through and encourages community members young and old to read more and spread the love of
books whilst sharing his experience of how books has changed his life for the better.

“I need young people to understand that Facebook is not a book and they should take time to read books that
are aligned with their passion & their thoughts. By reading the kind of books that can empower and enhance
their skills and thought processes they become more knowledgeable, confident and it becomes easier for them
to contribute to a better & more prosperous South Africa,” says Linzito.

Books are responsible for a lot of positive growth in various communities, and with the first known Library built
on African soil in Egypt, it is imperative that we continue to confront the issues of illiteracy head on. Our libraries
will always remain an institution of higher learning for those who cannot afford to attend Universities & Colleges.
That said, we need to protect our library from destruction and lobby for them to be regarded as national
keypoints.

#Cycle4Change encourages ordinary citizens, civil society and governmental departments to get involved and
become part of the Initiative by donating Reading books and starting 30 minute group reads every Friday under
the hashtags #Cycle4ChangeFridays & #ReadWithUs. Corporates are also encouraged to come on board as
sponsors and join us in building a reading nation, whilst also having an opportunity to link their product/service
to a culturally rich & diverse South Africa. We also request where possible employers allow employees to have
15min or 30min group reading which we believe will build their knowledge and skill base for their required tasks,
uploading pics and tagging #Cycle4Change on social media.

Thanks to the Success of the 2016 edition, with #Cycle4Change17 the difference is Linzito is no more solo and is
joined this year by a team of amazing & committed professionals which includes a Sports Scientist, a domestic
Pilot and an author amongst others. “I am inspired by a community that never gives up on its generation and
seeks not only to impact their immediate surroundings but that of the entire country” alludes Linzito.

The 2nd edition #Cycle4Change17 departs from 25th September 2017 (public holiday) and the public & the media
are invited to the send-off which takes place from 06:00 – 09:00 pm. The journey can be followed via social
media Cycle 4 Change ZA on Facebook, @c4c_za on Twitter & Instagram where 30 minute & hourly progress
updates will be given. For more info visit www.cycle4change.bike
