Club Rugby Wrap – Round 10
WP club rugby reported that Week 10 of club rugby saw Hamiltons hold onto their top position on the log with a hard fought victory over Durbell at Green Point.
Hammies started like a house on fire and ended the first half 19-6 ahead, but Durbell came back strongly in the second half and prevented Hammies from scoring again. Final score 19-16 to Durbell. SK Walmers scored a good victory over St Georges in the Strand which turned in a spirited performance before going down in an exciting game 15-34.
Sir Lowrians ran away with Villager who is finding life in the top league quite hard when they went down 31 to 78, but scored an important 4 try bonus point from the game. Helderberg came back strongly after their huge loss last week to Hammies by going down to Primrose at Rosmead by 20 to 31. Primrose had to pull out all the stops before running out winners in this entertaining encounter which saw some solid defense by the visitors.
In Super League B, Bellville fluffed a certain victory when flyhalf Maxwell Stoffels missed an easy penalty in injury time to hand Hearts a well needed victory in a very tight contest at Bellville. The hosts went down 28-29 with both teams picking up 4 try bonus points in a display of exciting running rugby. Collegians ran out 22-17 winners at Lentegeur against Franshhoek and Hamlets ran NNK close at Jan Burger Sports Complex in Parow before going down narrowly by 32-37.
Union Milnerton got back to winning ways beating Violets 27-23 Chukker Road, Kuilsriver held on for a hard fought victory against Rangers at Surrey Estate when they beat the hosts 15-14 and Young Peoples scored a good victory against Macassar in the Paarl beating their visitors 15-8. Raithby Universals and Pniel Villagers recorded a 31 all draw in their game in Raithby with Earl Marthinus missing numerous chances to win the game for Pniel.
In Super League C, Elsies River experienced a surprise loss against neighbours Silverleaf going down 29-32, Goodwood was much too strong for Strand running out 29 – 16 winners and Masiphumele surprised Paarl at Faure Street beating their hosts 32-25. Young Stars were much too strong for Northerns beating them 66-16 at Green Point.
In the Paarl Region, Albions beat Young Gardens 21-20 in a close contest at Boy Louw, Allandale was much too strong for Windmeul beating them 55-0 and Paarl Rangers beat Riverstones 22-6. Vineyards beat Simondium 23-20 in a hard fought match at Dal Josafat and Violets (Paarl) easily dispatched with Perel United 71-5.
In the City League Busy Bees continued their winning ways by beating Temp-Cities 32-7, Callies beat Tech Tuine 18-7 in a fiercely contested tussle at Noll Avenue and Hamediehs narrowly beat Manenberg Rangers 13-12. Watsonia beat Police 28-26 at Terre Terblanche stadium in Pinelands, Western Zebras surprised Progress 11-10 and Young Ideas easily beat Perserverance 59-17 at Langa Stadium.
In the Northern League, Blakes suffered a surprise loss to Whistling Wheels losing 13-20 at Eersterivier, Bishop Lavis continued their winning form beating Titans 25-12, Atlantis easily beat Delft 46-5 and Kylemore was much too strong for Strand Pioneers running out easy winners by 50-20 in Kylemore. The surprise in the league came from Khayelitsha who beat the top of the log team Van Der Stel 31-24 with home ground advantage playing a massive role in this vital encounter.
In the Southern League, Eersterivier beat Young Wesleys 31-14, Lagunya easily beat Richmond Rangers 48-12 in Epping while Thistles and Peninsula played to an exciting 13 all draw at Metropolitan.
In the women’s competition, Union Milnerton easily beat Franschhoek 120-0, UWC beat Khayamandi 70-0 and Blue Jets beat Busy Bees 7-5 in a very hard fought match at Langa Stadium.
In the Simonsberg Region Pumas scored a massive 133-0 victory over Lanquedoc, Morning Star beat Lwandle 29-7 and Excelsior lost narrowly 3-6 to Evergreens. The region also entered a representative team that will participate in the mid-season competition of the Union and we all look forward to them competing
