CLUB PROFILE: Schotschekloof Walmers RFC

skwalmers_power638With the unification of rugby in 1992, Schotschekloof Rugby club and Walmers Rugby club merged to become the Schotschekloof Walmers RFC we know today. Schotschekloof rugby club was in itself a merger of Young Stars (est.-1928) and Leeuwendales (est.-1946). Walmers was established in 1950. Schotschekloof Walmers RFC (SKW RFC) has been servicing the rugby community of Bo-Kaap, Walmer Estate, the greater CBD and the Cape Flats before its merger in 1992 and is still continuing their service to this day.

SKW looks to use sport as a vehicle to steer its youth from the plague of drugs and gangsterism. Through rugby they are striving to equip their youth with skills that will help them in life.

The club is affiliated with Western Province Rugby Union who in turn is affiliated with the South African Rugby, which has ties to the IRB (International Rugby Board). This means that they are subject to the rules and regulations of the IRB.

The club competes in Super League A of the WP union which is the highest domestic league within Western province.
