SKW conquer Villagers (2012 Flashback)
With the picturesque Lions Head set as its backdrop, conditions were ideal for a great game between SKW and Villagers back in June 2012.
The home side, SK Walmers, commonly known as The Kloof, dominated the 1st half breakdown with ferocity allowing their elusive backline to run freely at what at times may have looked like a beleaguered Villagers side. It was no surprise that the return of Ledries Arendse added some much needed guile to the Kloof’s already deadly backline line-up. Having lost a number of matches this season, the home side was determined to secure a much needed victory and a bonus point victory at that.
SKW definitely had a heavier pack and started the match like a house on fire, with some big runs by their forwards, with lock Abubakr Davids and no.7 Anton Lambrecht making effective in-roads into the Villagers defence. The pressure finally took its toll which saw SKW draw first blood with a try by no.11 Ledries Arendse who didn’t stop there and went on to score a hat trick of tries.
The final score on the day was SKW 41 – Villagers 10.
