WPRFU News Update 26th June
WPClubRugby reported that there will be several important events that are taking place within the next couple of weeks.We’re all gearing up for the Under-18 Craven Week which starts on the 13th of July and will be held at Paul Roos Gymnasium. We cannot wait to host the country’s best young talent and welcome them to such a prestigious tournament.
Yesterday was the second round of the transformation workshop at the HPC. This was a follow up meeting where stakeholders continued their discussions on addressing the key transformation objectives as required by SA Rugby.
A Forum Meeting with clubs are being scheduled for Wednesday 01 July 2015 to discuss the non-fulfillment of fixtures.
In club news, the teams taking part in the Top 9 Promotion league will be finalized after this weekend’s Regional fixtures. The top 3 teams from the City, Southern, and Northern leagues will compete in this competition once the season resumes on 01 August 2015 with the top 3 teams being promoted to Super League C. The public draw will take place on Wednesday 08 July 2015 at Newlands Stadium at 18h30.
In coaching news, the coaching department hosted an RPL (Recognition for Prior Learning) workshop for all coaches that were qualified with SARU Level 1, 2, 3 to discuss the RPL requirements in order to have the coaches qualified under the World Rugby Level 2 coaching qualification. The workshop that was held at Newlands was well attended and very informative.
As mentioned previously, the Under-15 Racing Metro 92 boys’ U15 team will be touring our shores shortly. Their schedule starts on the 4th of July with a game against Paarl Gym; this is followed by a game on the 9th against a WP Elite Squad before concluding on the 11th against the Western Cape Sports School at City Park.
Women’s Rugby continues to tick along after a successful launch of the Youth Training Centre which was held last week at City Park. On the 4th of July the Senior Women’s team takes on EP and we can’t wait to see the talent on show.
In Referee’s news, there is a Scholars Assistant Referees course at Curro Private School. Additionally, appointments have been made for the National 7’s tournament which will take place on Thursday and Friday, as well as for the VUKA tournament at Rocklands Avonwood on Thursday.
On that note, we must congratulate our referees who have been selected to be officiated in the various National tournaments. Divan Uys, Nathan Barry, Egon Seconds, and Monty Dumond have been selected to officiate in the Under-18 Academy Week. Amy Barrett and Neil Bosman (Grant Khomo), Joey Klaaste-Salmans (Under-13 Craven Week), and Dyllan Francke (LSEN Week) have all been appointed and we wish them all the very best of luck.
In other competition news there is also a Club Rugby 7’s tournament scheduled for the 10th and 11th July which takes place at Erica Park in Belhar. The teams taking part in that tournament will be announced shortly.
There are some club games taking place this weekend. Union-Milnerton takes on Hamlets at Theo Marais Park whilst Richmond Rangers will be taking on Bishop Lavis in Epping and Retreat will host Rocklands.
