Dangermen of the Rugby World Cup: Will Skelton

art_skelton_20140518170218309216-620x349Will Skelton: Today we’re moving away from the back line after highlighting Sonny-Bill Williams in Wednesday’s edition of Dangermen. No less intimidating is today’s dangerman, Australia’s new monster lock, Will Skelton.

Size and pedigree

Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1992, Skelton stands at an impressive 2.04m and weighs a sturdy 140kgs. Luckily for Australia, Skelton’s family moved to Sydney when he was 10 years old enabling him to be one of the nation’s key threats in this year’s Rugby world cup competition.

Skelton can be considered one of the exceedingly rare ‘pure-breeds’ of the rugby world as he is the cousin of former All-Black lock, Brad Mika. So rugby flows strongly through his veins, and at 23 years old the emerging Wallabie looks like he has a very bright future ahead of him.

A meteoric rise

Will Skelton made his Super rugby debut against the Stormers in May 2013. He debuted for the Wallabies in the third test against France in June and scored an impressive solo try, and set up another, to well and truly announce his arrival on the international stage.

Skelton capped off his meteoric rise through the Australian rugby ranks last year with selection in the Spring Tour squad, bringing his Test cap tally to eight by year’s end.

Definitely one to watch in this year’s World Cup.
