Springbok News: Flip back in the Green and Gold

1022.6666666666666x767__origin__0x0_Flip_van_der_Merwe(Supersport) Springbok lock Flip van der Merwe has come in from the cold, re-joining the Springboks ahead of their Castle Lager Rugby Championship clash against the All Blacks at Emirates Airlines Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

With stand-in captain Victor Matfield likely to be ruled out of Saturday’s clash when the results of the scans return on Tuesday, the Boks have been left with only three fit locks in the squad, and need some back-up urgently.

Van der Merwe, who had previously ruled himself out of contention due to a contractual issue, had a change of heart and returned to the Bok camp on Monday to join his teammates.

It is likely that he will be considered for the bench for Saturday’s game with coach Heyneke Meyer not having too many options as back-up to Matfield.

While Lood de Jager came off the bench and was only supposed to play 20 minutes, and ended up doing more than 60, making the most tackles in the Bok team and putting his hand up for a World Cup spot, the cupboard is pretty bare further on, with only the uncapped Franco Mostert available to join the team if needed.
