Springbok News: Meyer Satisfied with Newlands Outing

willie-le-roux-springboks-south-africa_3324287(Supersport) Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has pronounced himself happy with what his team got out of their 46-10 win over a World XV in their seasonal pipe-opener at Newlands on Saturday.

With the opening Castle Rugby Championship match against Australia in Brisbane just a week away, Meyer said he wanted boxes to be ticked, and although there is some work still be done and several aspects of the game have to be worked on, he felt he got what he asked for.

“There has been a lot of criticism of us for not being able to score tries and South Africa also had a poor season in Super Rugby and the confidence of the public seems to be down, so it was great to score seven tries today,” said Meyer.

“I wasn’t happy with the fact that the World XV scored one against us. But at least it wasn’t Barbarians rugby, and we were able to work on a few things that needed working on ahead of the Championship. We need to keep our feet on the ground through as there isn’t much time available to us before Brisbane and we know it will be much tougher in Brisbane, where the field is quick and the Wallabies will ask a lot more questions.”

Meyer said that what he was most pleased with was the sharpness the players showed with the ball.
