Dangermen of the World Cup: Julian Savea
Julian Savea: Perhaps the most dangerous player to be featured in this series so far, All Black wing Julian Savea seemingly has no equals in world rugby at the moment. Incredibly strong with blistering pace and the decision-making skills of a seasoned veteran, Savea well and truly is the full package.
Savea exploded onto the international stage and scored nine tries in his debut season for the All Blacks, on par with some of the best All Black wings in history. When we say exploded, we don’t mean it lightly: Savea is only one of four All Blacks in history to have scored a hat trick in his debut match. That’s right – three tries in his first match as an All Black.
He has represented New Zealand on U20 and Sevens levels and was nominated for the IRB player of the year award in 2014. He won the IRB’s Junior Player of the Year Award in 2010 after scoring eight tries for the Junior World Championship-winning New Zealand Under 20 side in Argentina. Savea is clearly no stranger to success.
He will be one of the most potent offensive weapons in the All Blacks’ arsenal come this year’s World Cup and will look to catch opposition defenses off-guard with his explosive pace and power. With the support of quality players around him like Ma’a Nonu and Dan Carter, is there anyone who will be able to stop him?
