Western Cape
The Safari Half Marathon takes place on 2 May in Wellington. Run through the rolling farmlands over 21km for this fantastic charity event. If you don’t think you’re strong enough to make the full run, you can participate in the relay with friends, do the 10km run or the fun run of 5km! Join on the day for family fun or to show your support, it’s bound to be a fun day all round! You can enter online here.
If road running is your thing, then the FNB Cape Town 12 Onerun is for you! It starts in Milnerton on 15 May. the 12km run takes you through to the finishing point at Bree Street in town. Some say it’s “the most passionate and welcoming road race on the South African running calendar.”The entrance fee gets you more than just the race, including access to the 12-week training course. For the Mountain Biking enthusiasts, the FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic takes place on 21 May, starting at Buffelspoort. There are three event categories, namely the 75km, the 35km and the 15km race. This is seen as a real accomplishment in the mountain biking world, if you’re up for the challenge, check out the full details here.
The FNB Platinum Trail Run in Buffelspoort is taking place on 22 May and you can enter into one of three event categories. The race categories fall into 24km, 12km and 8km. The event falls the day after the Magalies Monster Classic, which is a great way to end off an action-packed weekend! Running through the Magaliesberg and the majestic Buffelspoort Dam, the Platinum Trail Run will treat runners with challenging yet varied terrain as well as magnificent views of the Buffelspoort Valley!
Gauteng
The Energizer Night Trail Run takes place on 4 May at the Randpark Golf Club, Gauteng. There are two different races, a 4km and an 8km. There aren’t too many night races around, so when one does happen, take advantage of it! If you’re not too comfortable with the thought of running at night, you are more than welcome to walk the track! Get more information here.
The awesome Wings For Life World Run is a fundraiser event in support of Red Bull’s foundation that researches spinal cord injuries in the hope to find a solution or cure for people suffering. People also decide how far they want to run, be it 5km or 45km! On 8 May at SuperSport Park in Centurion, find more details here.
27 – 29 May the Arnold Classic Africa takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre. There will be a range of events, including amateur bodybuilding, a meet and greet with pro bodybuilders, a model show and pro bodybuilding finals. One of the most exciting features of the event is the opportunity to meet and have your photo taken with Arnold Schwarzenegger while enjoying lunch!
