Morning or evening training?

What’s the best time of day to hit the gym? There has been an ongoing debate as to whether it’s better to get your workout done in the morning or evening. Finally, the cat has been let out of the bag – the best time to tackle your workout routine is whenever it best suits you!
Let’s take a look at some advantages of both morning and evening workout sessions to help you figure out the best time to exercise:
Working out in the AM
- If you exercise first thing in the morning, you don’t have to worry about it again for the rest of the day. This means that you’ll be free to join your friends for happy hour after work or even arrange a special dinner date with your partner.
- Gyms and fitness centres are generally packed between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. This is especially true during winter months. You’ll enjoy a more efficient workout in a less crowded gym and, therefore, the proverbial early bird will actually catch the worm.
- Did you know that morning workouts are better for weight loss? When you exercise in the morning you actually kick-start your metabolism early and burn more calories during the day.
- If you had a proper night’s sleep your body will be fresh and ready for a morning workout. Just remember that your muscles will still be cold in the morning and therefore you have to do a proper warm up routine before going into full beast-mode.
Working out in the PM
- If you work out in the afternoon or evening, you’ll be left with a more relaxed morning and maybe even a little extra sleep. Let’s face it, some of us just aren’t meant to be awake in the early hours of the morning.
- When you opt in for a workout session in the afternoon, your body will be fully awake and in full control of its muscles and strength. You’ll also be less likely to injure your muscles due to coldness or sleepwalking on the treadmill.
- Had a rough day at the office? What better way to blow off some steam than hitting the gym hard! This will help you with stress relief and put you in a great mood to relax at home before bed.
- Even though most studies suggest that an early morning workout session will do wonders for getting a good night’s sleep, a recent study also found that lifting weights in the evening will do just the same.
So, what’s it going to be? The choice is yours…
