Cycling in August
Get rid of the summer blues by getting on your bike and enjoying South Africa’s natural scenery. Yes, August is here and it promises loads of great cycling events. There are races taking place all over the country in August.
First up, the Halfway Toyota Illovo Sugar Challenge
The race takes places on 21 August 2016 in Lake Island, Port Shepstone. The distance is 45 km, 25 km, 12 km and 5km. An extensive network of MTB trails run through the Eland nature reserve. While cycling, you will be lucky enough to see wildlife as well as breathtaking sections at the edge of the Oribi Gorge.
Second, Ride4Rhinos
Rhino poaching is an ongoing problem, but there are organizations who have joined forces to prevent this from continuing and also raise funds in an effort to help the cause. Ride4Rhinos is one of these organizations and attracts brave you men and women who are willing stand up for the cause. The race takes place on 13 August 2016 and a R200 entrance fee is paid which will serve as a donation for the anti-rhino poaching cause.
Lastly, the Scottburgh MTB Classic, which takes place on 14 August 2016, promises great fun but also demands courage. Crocodile-infested and tricky climbs conspire against you, but with the beautiful coastline between Scottburgh and Umkomaas laid before you, it’s worth the effort.
