Zone Fitness Lends A Helping Hand for Mandela Day
Wynberg had an awesome time celebrating Nelson Mandela day. They held a special 67-minute class done by two of their amazing instructors, Kerri and David. The members and staff had so much fun! To make the day even more memorable, they enlisted the services of a DJ to play some groovy music in the club to get the vibe going!
Zone Parow celebrated Mandela Day by having a 6.7 KM Fun Run/ Walk in Aid of the Elim Night Shelter. The shelter provides a safe haven for pensioners and persons living on the street.
To aid Elim Night shelter, members donated old clothing and canned food instead of raising money. Even those who could not attend the event made donations.
Members who participated in the charity event enjoyed it to the fullest. They loved exercising outdoors and were encouraged by the Fitness Team to start jogging at the end – which was most impressive!
Later that day, the clothes and food were dropped off at Elim Night Shelter. The house parent Shafiek was delighted to see the contribution Zone Fitness Parow had made.
Bruma spent Mandela day at the Emmanuel Home for teens. The Zone team donated a food parcel and spent some time gardening with the boys, which was a fulfilling experience for all!
Cobblewalk had a blanket-and-warm-clothes-drive for those in need and spent their 67-minutes handing out goodies to the less fortunate. They appreciated all the hard work and thoughtfulness of everyone who had a helping hand!
Zone Brackenfell and Zone Willowbridge once again teamed up to help out at Run 4 a Cause, a charity event held at Zevenwacht Wine Farm to raise funds for the crèche that looks after the children of the employees of Zevenwacht and surrounding farms.
The team headed off early morning to set up the water station for the hundreds of participants. They had great fun chatting to the runners when they stopped at the water station to catch their breath and even gave out prizes to a little lady and her mother who were the best-dressed athletes of the race!
Receptionist Craig Apollis and Fitness instructor Cizario Fuller came up with a unique workout regimen at Zone Rondebosch, called MADIBA 27, which consisted of the following:
M- Mountain climbers
A- Ab crunches
D- Dead-weight push
I- Incline push-ups
B- Burpees
A- Ab rotations
Each exercise consisted of 27 repetitions and the routine was repeated twice. Members were eager to join in and did exceptionally well!
Zone Westgate paid a visit to Autism Connect in Westridge Mitchells Plain for Mandela Day to hand over some workout equipment to the youngsters. They are excited to announce that they’ll be helping out with this school for the next 6 months!
All in all, we’re pleased to report that we had tons of fun and gained invaluable experiences while doing our bit for Mandela Day. Charity and kindness are no different to working out- what you put in is ultimately what you get out.
