Out and about in Cape Town during the holiday season
Keeping fit in the Mother City isn’t hard to do, especially during summer! The city is geared towards outdoor activities, just take a look at a few happening over December and get involved in as many as you can.
The AWOL tours are a great way to stay active and see historic locations around the city. Their cycle tours start at the V&A Waterfront at 10AM daily and takes you through the Bo-Kaap, the Company’s Garden, the Green Point Lighthouse and the Castle of Good Hope. The Stellenbosch Cycle Tour takes place in early December and takes you through the gorgeous Cape Winelands. The tour will establish riders’ placement in the 2017 Cape Cycle Tour. Find out more about entries and the route on their website.
If you’re feeling up for a challenge, The Grind outdoor obstacle courses will be in Cape Town on 3rd December at Zone 7 and is open to everyone – from fitness fanatics to early beginners. If you’re a bit scared to take on the massive challenge, there is a smaller 6km race called The Rapid Grind. Bands will be performing throughout the day and there is an after party going well into the night! Find out more about the fun event here.
Coming up on 14 December, ByeCycle Tours will be having a Sunday morning special price. The e-bike tour is a three-hour outing taking you around De Waterkant, District Six, the Company’s Garden and more! The tour starts at 9:00 and kicks off from the V&A Waterfront. For a day out in the open to experience the beauty of the Cape Winelands, Avontuur Wine Estate has guided walking tours of their farm. The tour takes you around their paddocks, through the vineyards and to other historical sights on the farm, such as the manor house. The tour takes 30 – 45 minutes and a speciality tasting to finish the tour takes an additional 30 minutes. Find out more on their website here.

The Adderley Street Festive Lights Switch-On happens on Sunday, 4th December. The festival will feature live music, stalls all the way down Adderley – including food and Christmas gifts! The street lights will be switched on at 8:30pm to mark the start of the festive season in Cape Town. The line-up for their live acts has not yet been confirmed, so keep an eye on their website for it!
