Keeping Motivation Alive During Holidays
With Easter on the horizon this April, it’s tempting to use the holidays as a reason to slack off and stay indoors away from the gym, enjoying the good food and drink that accompanies every family occasion instead.
But why not use the holidays as a way to test your resolve? The gains you make during this period will stand you in good stead for the months ahead. By working out when motivation is flagging, you’ll build the motivation to reach summer in good shape with a spring in your step.
Go with a training partner
Working out with a friend works wonders for motivation. Knowing that you’ll be letting someone down if you skimp on your regular routine is just the impetus you need to get up off the couch and into the gym. Better yet, enlist the services of a personal trainer so that you’re duty-bound to make the trip to your local Zone Fitness. Personal trainers are value for money when you consider that you’ll never miss a session.
Enjoy yourself
The biggest barrier to going to the gym is enjoyment, or a lack of it. If you’re slogging away on the treadmill five times a week, chances are you’re going to grow bored of the routine and find reasons not to go at all.
So change it up! Mix weights, cardio and high-intensity training together for an all-encompassing workout. Work on different muscle groups on different days and never sit still. Boredom will cause you to lose motivation, so keep that smile fixed on your face.
Keep a photo diary
Nothing keeps you ticking over at the gym like visual evidence of the progress you’re making. A visual diary is a surefire way to keep the fire burning, as it’ll illustrate the gains you’re making and point out the areas where you’ve still got room to grow (or lose a few!).
So there you have it – three easy, stress-free ways to keep gym a priority in your life even when you’ve got other priorities to worry about.
