FEELING-SLEEPY

Reasons you’re sleepy all day and tips for solving this!

Do you wake up tired and grumpy? Turns out you not alone, here’s a few reasons why.

Do you wake up ready to go back to sleep? Do you need 6 cups of coffee before noon just to feel human? Chronic fatigue is a common problem many of us face. However, feeling sleepy all the time can lead to some serious issues for our mental and physical health. Being in a constant state of fatigue can result in lack of productivity, focus and in some cases even depression.

Although there are many reasons you could be sleepy all the time, the positive news is, it’s not necessarily something permanent you have to live with. Here are the 4 top reasons you’re sleepy all day, and what you can do to about it:

You’re not sleeping enough!

While sleeping requirements vary from person to person, on average, most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep a day to function at optimal efficiency. Not getting enough sleep will result in constant fatigue and not being able to remember the last time you had a proper rest. The solution you ask? Make a conscious effort to switch off and prioritise your sleep!

You are not adhering to your bed etiquette

As important as it is to the quantity of sleeping you are getting is, the quality is just as vital. Stimulates such as coffee, energy drinks, alarm clocks all interfere with our quality of sleep. Us humans also suffer from a little thing called – DIGITAL OVERLOAD. Most of us are guilty of this, before we go to bed, or even in bed, we are checking emails, replying to texts, watching our favourite series. The solution? Try to take a 30 minutes’ digital sabbatical before shutting your eyes.

Poor nutritional habits

Consuming the wrong foods can make us feel fatigue and run down. Foods filled with processed carbohydrates and refined sugar give us an almost immediate energy boost that makes us feel ready to conquer the day. However, it does result in a crash that we all know too well as the dreaded afternoon slump. Try to stick to a healthy, balanced diet, with foods that are rich in minerals and nutrients- such as veggies and lean protein.

Stress

There is an abundance of issues we all face every day that causes stress, from traffic jams to serious financial problems. To ease your mind before bed and switch off, try keeping a journal and writing down your feelings or trying some meditation about 30 minutes before you head into bed.

Hopefully identifying what is making you stay in a constant state of fatigue will help you find a solution to it.

Here’s to many nights of good sleep and days packed with productivity!
