Meet Angelique Fredericks, Cape Town’s trendy yoga guru. Flexing her way along the coast of Cape Town, her Instagram account inspires body love and fitness goals.

Where it all began

“It’s weird, because the whole reason I even started posting my yoga practice [was] to inspire ‘normal bodied’ people that if I can do it, so can you and most importantly, to bring awareness to what your body is capable of.”

What we can learn from Angelique’s mantra?

When you think beach yoga, the first thing that comes to mind is getting the bikini body in shape for the approaching summer holidays. Angelique however preaches another story. While our bodies are our temples and should be treated right, we should view our bodies not as a number on a scale, but how we feel in your bodies. Body positivity is about being happy with how you look. There is no one size that fits all. We should rather embrace our own unique shape and size.

Diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a condition characterised by excessive pain, poor sleeping patterns, memory loss and mood swings, Angelique wanted to test the limits of her body and see what she was capable of, despite her condition. Although her yoga journey was set back by her illness, looking at what she had accomplished through yoga gave her the courage and power to push through. Even when we feel we just can’t do it, Angelique is living proof that if we put our mind to it, our body can achieve amazing things!
