We know waking up early to gym is difficult, especially on cold and rainy winter mornings where nothing sounds better than staying in bed for an extra 15 (or 30) minutes. With these helpful tips from Greatist, getting up early won’t be so difficult!
Cool down to warm up
This might be a bit extreme, but one of the best ways to wake up in the morning is to exercise outside. Ride your bike to work or gym in the morning, or go for a jog outside instead of on the treadmill. The fresh cold air will wake you up faster than any cup of coffee can!
Set two alarms
If you’re scared you won’t wake up in time, set two alarms, so when the first one goes off you know you still have ten minutes to sleep. Another trick that works really well is to put your alarm far away from your bed, forcing you to get up to turn it off.
Pack your gym bag the night before, turn your light on as soon as your alarm goes off and have a grab-and-go breakfast ready and waiting for you when you wake you. This will ensure that you can wake up and be out the door as quickly as possible.
Think about how you’ll feel after your workout
Make plans with your friends for brunch after your workout, and while you’re working out think about how great you’ll feel and the fun you’ll have once you’re done. Treat yourself after working out by indulging a bit (not every day of course!)
Work out with your furry friends
Take your dogs with you on your morning run, their excitement will be enough motivation to get up!
Respect your routine
Treat your workout routine with the same respect as a doctor’s appointment or work. If you respect your exercise times and don’t let anything interfere, it will be easier to keep going. If you think you won’t have the discipline on your own, join a workout group! Even if you aren’t excited for the workout, you’ll be excited to catch up with your friends. Workout groups are great, since you can motivate each other and won’t want to let each other down by not showing up.
Do it no matter what
No matter how cold or tired you are, follow the steps above and work out no matter what. This consistency will help you stay motivated and to keep going.
We hope these tips help you to stay motivated in the winter months!
