Spending a few days detoxing our bodies can do wonders to cleanse our systems, and is a good way to start the year with a positive mentality.

We’ve put together a list of the top detoxifying foods which are easy to incorporate into our diets, so we can avoid chugging green tea in the summer heat.

Start your day by drinking a glass of water with lemon and ice to help flush out toxins, prevent bloating and help you shed excess water weight! Lemons are also full of Vitamin C, potassium and magnesium, which will help your body absorb other nutrients during the day.

Beetroots are very high in antioxidants and are packed with nutrients. They are great at helping our livers flush toxins out of our bodies and make the best addition to any freshly squeezed juice!

Surprise! These yummy nuts aren’t just high in healthy fats and great for an energy boost. They assist our livers in flushing out fat soluble toxins. This is the perfect snack to keep on hand during the day.

Another great snack to keep on hand is organic apples. Full of nutrients and soluble fiber, apples are helpful in removing food additives and metals from our bodies.

Leafy Greens

Leafy green vegetables, like spinach, kale, parsley, broccoli and rocket, are full of iron, magnesium and potassium as well as Vitamin B, C, E and K. These nutrients are very important in assisting with the detoxification process. The high amount of fiber, which leads to slow digestion, also aids in the process. Try including greens as part of your daily meals.

Ginger root is one of the best anti-inflammatory agents. It stimulates digestion and circulation which is extremely helpful when doing a detox, as it rids toxins in the colon and liver. Drink a cup of lukewarm water with ginger in the morning or include it in a freshly squeezed juice.
